To drum up excitement for Fall sports (after being thrown into serious jeopardy due to the pandemic), Texas A&M Athletics announced we were revamping our mobile app. The app, titled 12th Man Mobile, would include a new in-game feature that would allow fans in attendance to participate in trivia, games, and a camera phone light show. While promoting the app itself, our Marketing team also wanted separate creative (a mark and a series of digital ads) for this special feature - which we later named “Rev Zone”.
Playing off of the Letterforms
Right after being tasked with creating the Rev Zone mark, I knew immediately that I wanted to play off of the letterforms of the “V” and the "Z”. The harsh sounds of those consonants mimic the harshness in the slants in those letters. I also took some inspiration from the bubble font of the 12th Man Mobile mark (created by another designer). While it was important for Rev Zone to have its own look, I still wanted it to be reminiscent of the main mark.
The font chosen for the Rev Zone mark has characteristics that are very similar to the font used for the mobile app logo.
